This webinar featured a discussion with RespectAbility President Jennifer Laszlo Mizrahi, Senior Advisor Matan Koch, and Executive Committee Board Member Vivian Bass about our exciting new initiative, Project Moses. Project Moses is dedicated to creating a leadership pipeline of Jews with Disabilities and preparing Jewish organizations to receive them. Only with authentic leadership with disabilities can the Jewish community truly become inclusive, and only by not closing itself off to the 20% of Jews with disabilities can the Jewish community find the leaders it needs to stay strong and vibrant in the 21st-century.

Our speakers were RespectAbility’s President Jennifer Laszlo Mizrahi and its Pollster, Meaghan Buren. Mizrahi is a national leader in disability advocacy. Buren is a pollster who has led multiple national polls on a variety of topics, including disability and Jewish issues.

This webinar featured RespectAbility Board Member Linda Burger, MSSW and her colleague, Laurie Morgan Silver, LCSW. Burger is a staunch leader in Houston’s Jewish community, where she is the CEO of Jewish Family Service Houston (JFSH). Silver, a psychotherapist, serves as a consultant with JFSH, where she supports suicide prevention and aftercare and other mental health programs.
Jewish Family Service Houston has developed a number of mental health initiatives to address suicide prevention and aftercare in its community. During this webinar, our leaders reviewed the statistical context as well as the purpose and status of the Mental Health Let’s Talk About It programs and services.

Recognizing that we must be a welcoming and inclusive community for all by expanding the ways in which individuals are invited and encouraged to participate in Jewish life, Federation developed an Inclusion Planning Toolkit to help all organizations on their journey to full inclusion. The toolkit is designed to be used as a fluid, developmental guide to assist secular and non-secular organizations through every stage and area of the inclusion journey, ranging from attitudinal changes to physical accommodations. Made up of two components—the Discussion Guides to spark conversation, and the Self-Assessment Activities to generate a Customized Resource Package—the toolkit is intended to build a collaborative environment around the topic of inclusion. We recognize that while each organization may be at a different stage of this journey, progressing towards full inclusion strengthens our entire community.
