National Leadership Program, Summer 2017
Marisela Rivera was a Communications Fellow at RespectAbility, where she worked on changing the narrative in Hollywood to ensure accurate and positive cultural media portrayals of people with disabilities. She also contributed to the Born This Way #BTWchat Twitter chats.
As a first-generation Latina, breaking down barriers through higher education is crucial, along with achievement and success. Rivera has an associate degree in Business Administration from the Borough of Manhattan Community College, B.A in Communications, and minor in Journalism from The City College of New York, and is still striving to enroll in a master’s program. She also holds a Public Relations Society of America Strategic Communications certificate. She is a long-time animal rights and disability rights advocate.
Rivera is a makeup enthusiast and has a personal blog in beauty, health, and wellness at livelovecaring.com, hoping to release her natural beauty products in the future. She is currently working on becoming a self-publisher and is in the process of creating a podcast. Her hobbies are blogging, photography, entrepreneurship, writing, nature exploring, pro-wrestling, being creative, cooking, and of course, learning.
She hopes to eventually own an animal sanctuary or shelter where animals get a second chance at life. She hopes that animals will be the next to be given rights with the help of the animal rights community.
Rivera profiled Stan Greenberg and Jonathan Salant, two guest speakers for the 2017 Summer Fellowship. Read them on our website:
