Disability Representation in Children’s Media: The Making of Jeff Mouse on Donkey Hodie

Join members of the behind-the-scenes team of Donkey Hodie, the PBS KIDS puppet series from Fred Rogers Productions and Spiffy Pictures, as they discuss the introduction of Jeff Mouse. The panel features co-executive producer Kristin DiQuollo, voice actor Jay Manuel, senior production designer Justin Vandenberg, and disability consultant and Lab Alumni Sam Krauss. The conversation will include a look at the nuances of disability representation in the development of Jeff Mouse and the intentionality of the series.

Jeff Mouse, an intrepid explorer and avid nature lover born with muscular dystrophy, made his debut in the new episode titled “Hee-Hee Hider Seekers,” which is available to stream now on PBS KIDS. Join us to learn more and participate in a Q&A session. American Sign Language (ASL) and open Captions (CART) will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there.

Donkey Hodie is the hit puppet series inspired by the funny, quirky side of Fred Rogers. It is produced by Fred Rogers Productions and Spiffy Pictures. The series is created by Adam Rudman and David Rudman of Spiffy Pictures and developed by Ellen Doherty, chief creative officer of Fred Rogers Productions. Executive Producers are Ellen Doherty, Adam Rudman, and David Rudman. Kristin DiQuollo (Fred Rogers Productions) is co-executive producer and Caroline Bandolik (Spiffy Pictures) is supervising producer.
