  • JPMorgan Chase, receiving the inaugural Disability Champion Award for demonstrating a sustained and meaningful commitment to advancing disability inclusion through partnership and allyship.

All three winners will be formally recognized at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, July 24, 2025. Recipients of the Bartlett and Spangenberg-Chappell awards will each receive a $1,000 honorarium in recognition of their outstanding contributions.

Congressman Steny Hoyer

Congressman Steny Hoyer is the most senior member of the House Democratic Caucus, having served in the House of Representatives for more than 42 years. Over the course of his career, he has held various leadership positions, including Majority Leader – the second highest ranking member of Democratic House leadership.

In 1990, Congressman Hoyer shepherded the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to overwhelming approval in the House. This landmark civil rights legislation, signed into law by President George H.W. Bush, has helped millions of disabled Americans enter the workforce, achieve independence, and go as far as their talents take them. In 2008, Congressman Hoyer also led the effort to pass the ADA Amendments Act, which reaffirmed and strengthened the ADA’s original intent of inclusion.

The Steve Bartlett Award is named for former Disability Belongs™ Chairperson and ADA co-author, Steve Bartlett, who also served as a U.S. Congressperson and Mayor of Dallas. The award recognizes leaders whose work advances systemic change for people with disabilities.

She also serves as the Board Chair of Iron Sharpens Iron WAST, Inc., which empowers and equips at-risk youth and justice-involved individuals.

The Spangenberg-Chappell Memorial Award honors Ben Spangenberg and Justin W. Both Ben and Justin dedicated their careers to advancing human and disability rights.
