RespectAbility Entertainment Professionals Lab 2024
Jeremy Hsing is a humanistic sci-fi writer, mental health advocate, and second-gen Taiwanese immigrant based in Los Angeles. He specializes in using his psychology background (BA in Psychology and double minor in art history and film from UCLA) to construct elaborate worlds in which his characters are forced to experience an internal reckoning in the pursuit of an emotional catharsis.
Past experiences include serving as the Seasonal Episodic Lab Coordinator at the Sundance Institute; AAPI Student Lead at the Center for Scholars & Storytellers; Public Engagement Intern at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures; Development Intern at Film Independent; and Creative, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Intern at WarnerDiscovery.
Hsing co-wrote, produced, and directed the magical realism short FISH, which was an official selection at Asian American International Film Festival, Boston Asian American Film Festival, NewFilmmakers LA Film Festival InFocus: Asian Cinema, winner of the Youth Grand Jury Prize at Astoria Film Festival, and winner of the Audience Award at Film Invasion LA.
A Get Lit Screenwriters Lab Fellow, RespectAbility Entertainment Lab Fellow (TV Writing), 1in4 Writers Mentorship Program Fellow, ACEX Foundation Writing Fellow, Academy Diverse Reader’s Program Certified Story Analyst, and Coverfly Best Unrepped Writers List 2022 Honoree, he is being mentored by Lee Isaac Chung through the Academy Gold Rising Mentorship Program and Lee Eisenberg through the Group Effort Initiative Mentorship Program. He currently is directing a short sci-fi documentary for PBS American Masters.

After an extensive search and interview process, 5 individuals were invited to participate in an intensive session for disabled drama writers, taking place June 20-28, with additional virtual sessions taking place in partnership with the virtual cohort, May – September 2024. Participants include people with a variety of disabilities ranging in age from the 20s through the 40s. This intensive elevates disabled creatives, focusing on building community, networking, and career advancement. This intensive is in collaboration with ABC Entertainment.
