Hiram Helfman
Hiram Helfman (he/him) was a Policy Fellow in RespectAbility’s National Leadership Program for Fall 2022 and Spring 2023. RespectAbility is a nonprofit organization fighting stigmas and advancing opportunities so that people with disabilities can fully participate in all aspects of community.
Ever since September 11, 2001, Helfman made it his life’s mission to promote a more peaceful world. His motto is thinking globally but acting locally.
Helfman has a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and a Master of Arts in Diplomacy and is interested in promoting peace through cooperation on social, economic, and environmental sustainability projects. Helfman also hopes to gain primary research skills and professional connections via this Fellowship and would love to work for a global disability policy organization.
He has a blog called Helfman’s Global Affairs Blog and is currently learning Mandarin.
Helfman worked with the Autism Speaks Steering Committee for Enhancing Covid-19 Vaccine Confidence Amongst the Autistic Community in Florida this year to encourage people on the Autism spectrum to get vaccinated against Covid-19. In addition, Helfman provided input on reading and visual materials. Helfman has also spoken at disability awareness events as part of the University of Central Florida’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities.
Helfman is a loyal fan of his Alma Mater, Rollins College Tars, in NCAA Division II. Helfman’s hobbies include playing basketball, gardening, reading, and spending time with his two dogs, a Bichon Poodle mix named Bobby and a Havanese named Teddy.
