Workforce agencies based in New York City face unique challenges meeting the needs of diverse job seekers with a wide range of barriers to employment. This is especially true when it comes to empowering people with disabilities, as they come into the labor force. There are more than 460,000 working-age New Yorkers living with some form of disability. People with disabilities want to work but may need different support to find the right job in our complex economy.
Funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), workforce programs and professionals work every day to help marginalized individuals achieve a better future. Yet, serving a job seeker with a visible or invisible disability can require new skills, new resources, and new ideas to succeed.
RespectAbility, a national disability organization focused on advancing opportunities, invites you to a gathering of workforce professionals. Made possible by a grant from the New York Community Trust, this free event reflects lessons learned from direct conversations with workforce agencies throughout the five boroughs. This session will provide insight, ideas, data, and best practices on how to better serve job seekers with disabilities.
Please join us from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, June 29, 2018. We will be gathering at the Marriott Eastside 525 Lexington Ave. at, E 49th St, New York, NY 10017 (On Lexington between 48th & 49th). We look forward to seeing you there!
