Brieanna Iyomahan, Communications Fellow

Brieanna Iyomahan

Brieanna Iyomahan was a Communications Fellow at RespectAbility, where she worked on changing the narrative in Hollywood to ensure accurate and positive cultural media portrayals of people with disabilities. She also managed RespectAbility’s Facebook page.

Iyomahan’s early exposure to special education through volunteering in her mother’s classroom made her passionate about disability rights, especially concerning education. Her passion has driven her to promote equality through education within the classroom as well as in the community.

She has experience with teaching skills to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) that will help them succeed in social situations. Additionally, she also has educated the community through her research on police interactions with people who have ASD, which she presented at the 2014 Rise Above conference at the University of Maryland, College Park. In 2015, she helped organize the Rise Above conference, exposing the student population to important issues in disability policy.

Iyomahan is a rising senior with a double major in Psychology and Early Childhood/Special Education at the University of Maryland, College Park.
