Speakers:
Dr. David Stapleton, an economist, is a senior fellow at Mathematica and the director of Mathematica’s Center for Studying Disability Policy. Since 1991, his research has focused on the impacts of public policy on the employment and income of people with disabilities. He is currently leading Mathematica’s research efforts under its Disability Research Consortium agreement with SSA, is co-leader for the evaluation of SSA’s Benefit Offset National Demonstration, and is senior advisor for a Department of Labor project on return to work supports for workers who encounter medical conditions that threaten their ability to continue to work.
Dr. David Wittenburg, an economist, is a senior researcher in Mathematica’s Center for Studying Disability Policy. Over the past twenty years, he has published several reports, journal articles and policy briefs for the Social Security Administration and the U.S. Department of Education on employment initiatives for people with disabilities and has a specific interest in issues facing transition-age youth. He has written extensively and testified before Congress on the challenges facing youth who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in transitioning to independence. He currently works on several projects for SSA and ED, including a NIDRR funded Employment Policy Measure Research and Rehabilitation Training Center that is supporting this presentation.
