A Win for the Workforce Bill

From POLITICO’s Morning Education:

A WIN FOR THE WORKFORCE BILL:

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act sailed through the Senate Wednesday afternoon, taking steps toward streamlining federal workforce programs and overhauling the job training system for young people with disabilities.  The easy passage was a culmination of efforts spearheaded by the bill’s co-authors, Sens. Patty Murray and Johnny Isakson. The bill now heads to the House, where Rep. Virginia Foxx has said she’s “cautiously optimistic” about the bill’s future. Foxx, who authored the House version, said there weren’t any changes in the Senate that could derail legislative efforts. The House could take up the bill this summer but likely not before the July recess.

The bill’s passage earned broad praise from lawmakers, including Sens. Tom Harkin, Lamar Alexander, Tim Kaine, House Education & the Workforce Chairman John Kline and more. “I am confident the House will send this bill to the president’s desk without delay,” Kline said. The Business Roundtable, RespectAbilityUSA and The Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc., also lauded the bill’s passage. “This legislation recognizes that hiring Americans with disabilities can be win-win-win for people with disabilities, employers and taxpayers alike,” said Jennifer Laszlo Mizrahi, president of RespectAbilityUSA.
